Shamrock Memory Cards; more games to come soon

I'm a bit late for St Pat's Day, but I thought I'd post these memory cards anyhow. Shamrocks are always cute.

I'm intending to post more printable reading games etc. over the next several weeks, to support those who are struggling to entertain and teach children staying home because of the COVID-19 scare.

These are tough times for us all, no matter where we live. This is one small thing I can do to try to help someone, somewhere. All the games I add in the next few months will be available for private/non-profit/educational use until things settle down - at the very least until later in the year.

These cards can be printed onto A4 light card (or thickish paper, and laminated), then cut out. The words supplied are -at family words, but you can always write any other words on the card fronts before laminating the cards (use pencil so it doesn't show through).

Click on the links below the images to open a printable .PDF of each sheet. If you're using the words, print them onto one side of your A4 card, and the pictures on the other.

2020 Planner

The new decade has arrived - hope this is a wonderful one for you!

I just realised I hadn't made my 2020 planner yet, so here it is - you can print it as A4 or make it larger (A3) for a wall planner.

Holiday and Christmas Games

It's almost December - time to post some games for the holidays!

These games can be printed for children to take home over to use over the holidays, to practise their Sight Words.

They will need some Sight Words cards if playing as a reading game; also movers and a die or spinner.

Another website change; Halloween Game

Since my last post, I've lost another domain name for my website (didn't pay up in time), but I've bought a new domain name, gametoread.com, so the site is back up - with links to other sites, blog and facebook page.

Family events/illness have taken over in the last year, and reading hasn't been on my mind, so I haven't been adding to the blog etc; but as it's almost the end of October, I thought I should post a Halloween game - so here's one I've dug out and re-vamp(ir)ed!

As usual, you'll need a die and movers to play the game; click on the link below and print onto A4 paper or light card; laminate if you want to keep using it. The link will be active until mid-November.

Change of website domain and Christmas reading games

NEW WEBSITE DOMAIN:

The domain for my "Reading Should be Fun" website expired a while ago, and it has been taken over by a reading tutor (this is not me!). I've purchased a new domain, but it's .NET, not .com.
So the new web address for now for the site is www.readingshouldbefun.net. The old .com site address will still be on the games.
I haven't updated the site for ages, but I'll keep it going in case....

CHRISTMAS READING GAMES:

Here's a couple of games I've made in the past with a Christmas theme, to use with word cards for children to practise their sight vocab.

Santa's Helpers printable game

These games are best printed onto A4 size light card; they can be laminated before use. You can get the children to colour in the Santa Words game before laminating.

Santa Words printable game

To play the games, you will also need 'Sight Words' cards (these can be words written on small pieces of card) a die/dice or spinner, and small tokens or 'movers' (buttons, small pieces of coloured card etc).

The Santa Words game also makes a fun, cheap take-home holiday activity - just print/copy it onto A4 plain (or thick) paper; encourage the children to also make their own Sight Words cards to practise.

The games will be available for free download (for educational, non-commercial use) during the rest of December and the beginning of January.

October-November 2018: Fright Night game

I've been busy with other projects this year so haven't been making any new games, but as it's Halloween I thought I'd re-post this fun game. Click on the link below the picture to download the .PDF file to print.

If you want to print it in black-and-white it’s easy to photocopy onto paper or light card to give students their own copy to keep and use with any ‘sight words’ cards, or you can laminate it and use for small groups.

Players will also need dice and small tokens/movers.

This game is free to download (for private/ educational use) and will be available until at least mid- November.

December games to print

I missed posting a game in November, so here are 2 for December. They are both old ones, but were popular with my students:
