December games to print

I missed posting a game in November, so here are 2 for December. They are both old ones, but were popular with my students:

Snow fun board game

These games are best printed onto A4 size light card; they can be laminated before use.
They will also need "Sight Words' cards (these can be words written on small pieces of card) a die/dice or spinner, and small tokens or 'movers' (buttons, small pieces of coloured card etc).
The games will be available for free download (for educational, non-commercial use) during the rest of December and the beginning of January.

October Printable Game: Fright Night

Here's an old favourite, as Halloween approaches.

If you want to print it in black-and-white it’s easy to photocopy onto paper or light card to give students their own copy to keep and use with any ‘sight words’ cards, or you can laminate it and use for small groups.

Players will also need dice and small tokens/movers.

This game is free to download (for private/ educational use) and will be available until at least mid- November.

"OUT!" printable game for /ou/ as in out

Here is a new game for August (a bit late!) > September.

This is a simple game to help children learn words with the "ou as in out" pattern.

Print on thin card, laminate, and use with 'movers' and dice :)

This game will be available for free download (for private/ educational use) until the end of September.

New reading game for July: Fly Up in the Sky

I missed out on posting a game in June, as I've had various issues with computer use and with websites - had to let 'ReadingShouldBeFun.com' lapse as it was costing me too much, and I'd never really done much with it - and after having to fix problems with Dropbox file storage on my other sites, I've now got disappearing images as Photobucket decided it would no longer host '3rd party' images without a hefty subscription! Still working on fixing that issue, as they didn't give me enough notice.

However, the Blog seems to still be working OK, and I have a new game that I made a few months ago to help children learn the 'words ending with long y' pattern (usually words of one syllable as in the game, but of course July is an exception!)

Here's the game - as usual, print on light card, laminate, add dice and 'movers'; it's free to download for non-commercial educational use until at least mid- August.

May game: _ay words

I have been very slow in posting this month's game, as I have had to break in a new computer and have had a lot of trouble with inflamed tendons in my hand and arm, making computer use difficult.

However, here's a game I made not long ago (I don't think I've posted it before) which seems relevant for May - even though it's almost June!

This game is designed as a quick board game to help children practice the “ay” word family so they can easily recognise this common pattern in words.

You just need to print the game onto light card (and preferably laminate it), and use a die (dice) or spinner and little tokens or “movers”.

The game will be available for free download (for private/ educational use) until the end of June.

Easter Reading Game - short /u/ words

Here's an Easter-themed game I made a few years ago for my Grade 1 students, to help them practice words with the short /u/ sound.

The game can be printed on light card and laminated before use; you will also need a die and tokens or 'movers'. It will be available for free download during April (for private/educational use).

St Patricks' Day Reading Game

I haven't been able to post new games since January, due to several problems with websites, computer, file storage and inflamed tendons in my hand (due to over-use - trying to deal with all the other issues!)

I'm still not supposed to use my hand for more than 5 minutes at a time on the computer (bought a new one, much smoother and faster, but still setting it up), and I'm still dealing with the website and file storage problems, so won't be making any new games for some time.

However, I thought I'd post an old one relevant for this time of year - so here's an Irish- themed game to print and use with Sight Words cards:

New Reading Game - Fly Away Birdies

Here's a new game I have made for the new year. We have been lucky enough to have little birds -  Pardalotes - visiting our house, and the babies have just flown the nest, so I was inspired to make a game with the theme of baby birds leaving the nest.

This game is designed to use with Sight Words cards. You can use any words that need practising. You will also need some little tokens or 'movers' and a die or spinner.
